Welcome to WebQuest .... an hour long presentation highlighting one way to integrate technology into your practice of teaching.
We all need to face the facts .. that the Internet is here to stay and that the Internet is ubiquitous, it is part of the fabric of our everyday lives. We, you and I, are digital immigrants, but the kids sitting in our classrooms everyday are digital natives. The kids today have grown up with technology ....and just expect it to be part of their daily experience (but that doesn't mean that they know how to use it as an academic tool). We need to catch up ... education needs to catch up! The buzz phrases ... 21st century skills ... 21 century learning ... We need to get the kids ready for their workplace, but nobody knows for sure what it will look like ... one thing is for sure, technology will be a big part of it!
Back to WebQuests ....Remember way back when ... if you were going to do a project with the kids, you would go to the library, search the card catalog for books on the topic, find the books on the shelves, put them on a special shelf in the library or maybe check out the books and bring them back to the room for use by students (if you were really lucky the librarian compiled a "cart" of resources). The students would use them in the library, classroom and , maybe take them home (if they were "responsible" students)... some kids might even go above and beyond and go to the library themselves and look for more resources .... Remember ????
Ok, so how would that look today .... how have the card catalog, the resources, and the cart changed? What do they look like now?
Task 1: Using the Discussion Tab, describe the "new" cart.
Task 2: What additional questions would you have Bernie Dodge? Use the Discussion Tab to share your questions. Anybody want to role play and answer????
